Inspired by the frequent transcontinental flights between Thailand and France, Nick Reitmeier of Central Food Retail, an executive of Central Wine Cellar, came up with the idea of bringing in an array of different wines from France for “Wine Tasting: Bordeaux Rendezvous 2014”.
The classy party at the Centara Grand at CentralWorld drew a crowd of celebrities, among them Supatra Chirathivat, Tos Chirathivat, Wat Chirathivat, Suthisarn Chirathiwat, Pascal Billowe, Alistair Taylor, Chatchai-Kanyarat Pladisai, Jennis Sinthawachiva, Thitipong Lorprasert and Nuanpan Osatananda. Also on hand was Ajarn Viroj Leetrakul, the wine guru who once won the television game show “Fan Pan Tae” thanks to his expertise.
Reitmeier said he’s scouted out the best wine at the best source and brought along a delegation from renowned winery Barriere Freres. The firm has sponsored “Bordeaux Rendezvous” events in Singapore, Vientiane, Jakarta and Bali prior to Bangkok.
The owners of 19 Grand Cru chateaux in Margaux, Pauillac, Haut Medoc and Saint Emilion also made special trips from France to attend the Thai party and share their knowledge.
Chateau Calon Segur-Saint Estephe Appellation from Saint Estephe is a much-loved wine in Asia. Chateau Dassault-Saint Emilion Appellation was recently affiliated with the Lafitte Rothschild brand.
For a “softer” vintage, the Central Wine Cellar offers Chateau Guiraud-Sauternes Appellation, top of the ranking system on the 1855 Bordeaux Wine Classification. It’s an ideal match with spicy Thai food.
Also on sale are Chateau Clerc Milon and Chateau Beychevelle.
