Thanong Khanthong was spot-on when he said Thailand needs reform that will help the people on society’s bottom rung.
Despite being a darling of Thailand’s poor, Thaksin Shinawatra has done very little to alleviate the problem of poverty. On the contrary, as a result of his rule and influence over Thailand during the past 13 years, household debt among the poor has doubled.
Thaksin sought to solve poverty problems by thinking like a billionaire. That is why he failed to bring unity to the country. If he had done any good he would have won the Nobel Prize, just as Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar and Mohammad Yunus of Bangladesh did for their contributions to their countries.
