A totally immersive experience heads to Bangkok next Saturday as the Arcadia Spectacular Spider stage makes its first ever visit outside its UK home with Thailand as its chosen destination.
The party is part of “Gravity Thailand 2014”, put together by Memotion and Tourism Authority of Thailand, and will incorporate lots of light, sound and electronic music in a high- voltage bash at Siam Park City on the outskirts of Bangkok.
Founded in 2007, Arcadia Spectacular is an extremely dedicated team of engineers, designers, performers and partygoers with exceptional vision for creativity in all its forms. They design and construct weird and wonderful machines and installations from recycled materials that transform into living mechanical art structures and music stages. These incredible pieces of machinery are used for such music events and performances as the Glastonbury Festival of Performing Arts, which drew a crowd of 75,000 people in 2014 and the Boomtown Festival. Some of the team’s vehicles also put in an appearance at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics and earlier this year, they picked up an award for Best Live Production at the prestigious TPI annual award ceremony.
The Spider is Arcadia’s largest and most radical structure. Straight out of the realms of science fiction, this colossal alien creature is the lynchpin of Arcadia’s ecosystem and will be the main stage at Gravity Thailand. The Spider is a 360-degree interactive environment with a fully programmable DJ booth suspended above the sweet spot of the dance floor. This incredible stage is armed with lasers, giant jets of CO2 and fire cannons that shoot flames 16 metres into the air sending shock waves through the crowd. The stage also features aerial performers suspended from cranes at the peak of the legs, acting out a breathtaking choreographed show and spinning at high velocity above the audience.
Alongside the Spider stage as part of the Arcadia extravaganza are the Lords of Lightning. Two men in bespoke chainmail suits harnessing four million volts of raw electricity between them, send the flow of electricity in a fluid dance before breaking out into a primal battle of crackling energy.
The stage will host some of the very best in international and local DJ talents, chosen for their specific sound to work in unity with the spider stage. Some of the highlights include Italian electro house act the Bloody Beetroots, dubstep spinner Skism, energetic live DJ and PA act Far Too Loud as well as drum and bass legend DJ Roni Size, who teams up with MC Dynamite for the event. Local stars such as DJ Suharit, BBB, Machina and many others also join the troupe.
