I have always enjoyed the daily Stephff cartoon in your newspaper, generally targeting, pointedly and almost recklessly, those in authority who usually deserve to be brought down a peg or two. But I feel strongly that his contribution in Monday’s Nation is silly and childish, cheapening as it does a subject that is simply beyond such trivialising.
We should all remind ourselves that the victims of this barbarous and distressing treatment by the self-appointed guardians of the world’s human rights were often not guilty of anything except being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This would include anybody who, in the highly questionable opinion of the CIA, might know something about the activities of Muslim terrorists, doubtless in some cases merely neighbours or relatives of suspected deviants. This blanket and blindly revengeful activity has apparently resulted in innocents being tortured just to find out if they did know anything, and is certainly no laughing matter!
