The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) must come up with a clear ruling over the recent stock deal – in which IT solutions provider Solution Corner acquired a 12.27-per-cent stake in the Nation Multimedia Group.
This deal could end up as a corporate takeover, which will be devastating to fair competition in our broadcast industry.
As national broadcasting and communications regulating body, the NBTC must ascertain that this particular transaction will not develop into one competitor taking over another – instead of competing in a fair-and-square manner.
The NBTC must also ensure that no one group has the right to push Thailand’s broadcasting aspirations into a tailspin even before it takes off.
