It's time for democracy to bite back

One of the most treasured principles of democracy is freedom of expression. Should this democratic privilege extend to allowing an anti-democratic ideology the freedom of speech to destroy democracy itself?

Unchecked, is freedom of expression the very enemy of a democratic system of government? During the 1950s Marxism was allowed to infiltrate trades unions in the UK by exploiting the very freedoms democracy allows. The union bosses became politically powerful, effectively controlling government. They debauched the economy and ruined industry with their communist-backed ideology, in complete opposition to democracy. British industry never recovered.
Currently in the UK, Islamist extremists are free to parade in the streets and hold meetings in public proclaiming their intention to impose sharia law across the country. They are in total opposition to the democratic system that is long established in their adopted country. They have been allowed to build mosques despite strict planning controls and, in one town alone, Luton, they have built 30. They physically attack indigenous people who, when they protest against the situation, are arrested by the police for “causing social unrest”. This is the beginning of a failed state. Essential to democracy is the role of the police in upholding the law objectively in an unbiased manner: in the UK they do not. Why? Because of political correctness, above all, out of fear of being attacked by the extremists who have shown they are prepared to commit murder in public (Army Officer Rigby) and bomb public transport (7/7).
The actions of these extremists discredit peaceful Muslims.
The mother of democracies is displaying its weakness because it is toothless. As the extremists grow in number, they will further expose democracy’s weakness. It’s a numbers game. With a majority at the ballot box they will impose sharia law and overthrow democracy. Democracy is committing suicide due to its principles of freedom being exploited unprotected.
For a democratic form of government to be maintained, it must be prepared to fight for its principles or meet its demise.
