World needs a vaccine against Thai strain of corruption

Re: "Separate anti-graft court proposed", Politics, February 4.

In discussing a separate Administrative Court unit for Thailand’s campaign against corruption, Constitution Drafting Committee chairman Borwornsak Uwanno points out that “traditional courts have adhered to the principle that letting 10 guilty people off the hook is better than punishing one innocent person”. Therein lies a likely cause of rampant corruption in Thailand. Was the single innocent person really of any concern, or was it really all about the multiple brown envelopes, gifts from the criminal set? Just imagine, tens (becoming tens of thousands) of guilty-but-free human “Corruptus Scumbag Bacterium” reproducing exponentially throughout the Kingdom over a period of decades.
A local cure for Thailand’s very own epidemic of avarice and self-interest – “Criminalis Greedicadus Viralthaitis” – is only at the experimental stage. Sadly, even the common cold still requires a handkerchief, so we shouldn’t be overly optimistic. The world is in very great danger from the spread of Thai-style corruption. For example, more and more companies are locating overseas to strut their stuff and to plague a host of unsuspecting foreign states. At the same time international corporations are moving to Thailand to learn the ropes and to avoid being left behind.
In the manner of Thunderbirds, I propose an international rescue corps – SATCHEL - Stand Against Thai Corruption Hell. Everything done to beat the Ebola virus in Africa must now be emulated here to rid the human race of the Corruptus Scumbag Bacterium, including the screening of CEOs, politicians and bureaucrats at all international airports. SATCHEL has a large bag of tricks. Eradication is paramount. Success is constitutional!
