Bags of plenty

A new local brand has totes for every occasion

PORNTAP SAE-LEE, a marketing graduate from Bangkok University, and his girlfriend have no formal grounding in art and design but are having no problem showing their creative sides through a collection of colourful lifestyle products made from pa kao ma under the label Busaba Craft and Design.
The pair opened their first shop at Ayothaya Floating Market and did so well that they were soon able to launch three more outlets in Chiang Mai.
In October they teamed up with friends to form the new brand, Canvas Factory Studio, and introduced their first collection of multipurpose canvas bags to the public at the biannual Bangkok International Gifts and Houseware Fair.
As functional as they are attractive, the bags come in four designs and in colours that mix and match. They also boast lots of room and compartments, making them perfect for the urban lifestyle.
“We worked closely with an established factory to develop a new textile pattern that’s inspired by the traditional back-strip weaving technique of the hilltribes in Lamphun province. We used a warp to show all the shades and create a striped motif,” Porntap says.
“We also ensure the bags are strong by using high-quality zips by YKK and a two-inch strap to balance the weight.
All bags are water resistant and shockproof and have coated rubber on the inside.
The Case Bag comes with a removable strap and separate compartments for a mobile phone, power bank, key chain, stationary and cards.
Bikers will love the Weekend Bag with its cross- body strap and compartments for a 7.9-inch Tablet, mobile phone, power bank, A5-sized documents, spare stationary and wallet.
The Tote Bag with a strap and handle can easily take a 14-inch notebook computer and a 10-inch tablet as well as a power bank. There are pockets too for a travel card, A4-sized documents and a bottle of water.
The Messenger Bag has multifunctional compartments for that 13-inch notebook computer and 10-inch tablet, as well as for mobile phone and power bank and boasts the same pockets for travel card, documents, pens and a bottle as the Tote.
Canvas Factory Studio’s products are already available at Loft and B2S and the brand will launch its new collection next month at the Bangkok International Gifts and Houseware Fairs.
