Foreigners used to buy their way into military

For your info, a few foreigners have reported being taken to police stations by "fake" police, where they paid bribes to be released.

Back in the 1960s, at Korat RTAFB, I saw a foreigner in a Thai AF captain’s uniform. He got into the back seat of a Thai AF sedan and a Thai sergeant drove him off base.
I asked around and heard that he was a retired USAF staff sergeant, who had bought the rank and worked as liaison with the USAF. Supposedly, he lived in officer’s quarters near the main gate with his Thai wife.
In 1967, at U-Tapao RTNAS, I heard similar claims from both American and Thai friends that Thai military positions were offered to “select” individuals, who automatically became Thai citizens.
