Absconder released on bail again

Re: "Arisman and 12 other red shirts out on bail", Politics, March 11.

After a lapse of six years a court finds that a televised international incident – the 2009 siege of the Asean summit in Pattaya – was a crime. Now a court allows an appeal on unspecified grounds. It frees a man who has jumped bail previously. It is claimed as a victory for democracy. It will bring more income for lawyers and of course appeal-court judges, at a cost to the public purse. It is to be hoped the Constitution Drafting Committee will review the appeals system harshly to speed up the justice system. Without laws there is no democracy.
If any of these people jump bail, the court deserves to be impeached.
