I feel sorry for letter-writer John Arnone after his views on why farmers love Thaksin were distorted by others to suggest he supports Thaksin. I, too, have been branded a Thaksin supporter, when what I actually support is using the law to deal with rotten politicians.
I often ask why we need a coup every time a prime minister screws up. But other letter-writers digress by responding, “the coup prevented a civil war, and 99.99 per cent of Thais agree”. We have an anti-corruption agency, anti-money laundering agency, a court for corrupt officeholders, the Constitutional Court, the Senate, and an alphabet soup of watchdog agencies, so why did we need a coup? This is like executing a suspect first and trying him later. Since the suspect is already dead, the verdict is going to be “guilty” (it’s all about saving face, you know).
I can imagine Khun Songdej and Khun Vint scrambling to a keyboard, typing furiously to discredit me. But frankly, my dear...
