I know that often these alleged perps are paraded before the media to show how they (supposedly) performed the dastardly deed. Remember the snaps of the two Burmese chaps accused of the Koh Tao killings? They even sported motorcycle helmets. Thankfully, in this case of the young grandma rapist, we were spared that accompanying “action” photo.
If some of these accused are actually innocent (as some must be) they must really have to scramble to come up with a convincing scenario to act out. How can they possibly receive a fair trial after such a charade? And what about this farce where the accused get their sentences automatically halved if they confess?
I am sure many innocent people (especially if they lack funds for a defence) have simply confessed, figuring they will no doubt be found guilty and then will have to spend twice as long in prison. Meanwhile, those of means who have actually committed crimes walk away scot free. It would seem that the Thai justice system is more interested in speed than justice.
