With all the trouble the Philippines is now having with China, I wonder if the Filipinos now wish they had not kicked out the American military bases.
When they were doing so, they argued that they didn’t have any external enemies. But any sane person could have told them that the best time to build a strong defence is precisely when you don’t have enemies – so you can be prepared when they arrive.
