Please allow me to set the record straight. Letter-writer Mr Herd is way off the mark when he proposes that I voluntarily forsake my Aussie pension. I have no pension to forego.
Unlike many expatriates living in Thailand at their countries’ taxpayers’ expense, I am a self-funded retiree. Included in that is a modest return each month as a result of me paying into the defence-force retirement fund for 20 years.
But thank you, Mr Herd, for giving me the opportunity to add to my “constant stream of letters”, which the editor seems willing enough to publish.
Now if you will excuse me, I will go back to wallowing in my shame.
