Samui beaches dodge junta clean-up mission

Re: "Beach cleaning campaign a success", National, June 22.

While The Nation reports that “umbrellas and chairs are now things of the past at major beaches across the nation, thanks to the junta’s clean-up campaign”, nothing has changed on Koh Samui. Nightly beach parties thrive until 2am, even on national holidays. Umbrellas, chairs and vendors cover the beaches throughout the day. Some resorts in Chaweng are even bold enough to obstruct the entire width of the beach, forcing pedestrians into the water.

The junta is simply no match for the “influential people” who run Koh Samui. So, if you like the beaches the way they used to be before the junta’s so-called “clean-up campaign”, come on down to Samui, where things never change.
