Even the US is facing this problem, having built a wall along its border with Mexico to stem illegal migration from the south.
The problem in Thailand is that human trafficking of Muslim Rohingya refugees has been going on for years, with Thai officials accused of aiding this despicable criminal act. Hence, to be fair, the problem lies with the Thai government – not with the world.
The Prayut government must show it is working to protect human rights as well as delivering justice.
High-ranking officials who are found to be aiding traffickers must be punished fairly and squarely and with no exceptions, whether they come from the military or the police. The country’s integrity depends on this.
It would be unwise to wriggle out of the problem by merely paying lip service while doing little or nothing to combat it.
This is a time to correct ourselves and strive to do better, not to cry “foul!” at the world.
