A THAI fashion house known for its dedication to the glamour of the 1950s, Poem recently launched a new collection for autumn-winter 2015 that while modern, maintains the impeccable grooming of yesteryear.
“My mother’s style is still loved by much of our clientele,” says Poem’s creative director, Chawanon Kaisiri, “but it’s no longer really up-to-date.
A former student of architecture, Chawanon has cleverly built his new designs around the brand’s DNA, combining tailored cuts with cutting edge technology.
Shown recently at Gaysorn to an audience of fashionistas that included actress Ann Thongprasom, news moderator Suquan Bullakul, and many A-list celebrities, Poem’s winter 2015 collection, dubbed Sonnet of Starlight, turns a new leaf in fashion design with modern material but classic silhouettes, crafts and patterns that never fail to compliment the female body in all its shapes and sizes.
“Love poetry is one among the very few things that can resonate and capture a woman’s deepest emotion, and for this new collection, every item is a love poem that serenades a woman’s sentiments. Whether it’s a joyful day, or a wearisome moment, my design is created to recharge your energy and fill your heart with confidence. The intricate, refined details in every design guarantee that no matter the circumstances, Poem’s items will transform every woman into a glamorous, enigmatic and elegant being.” Chavanon explains.
The collection also reflects the designer’s interest in astronomy with enigmatic silhouettes and the conceptual arrangement of the zodiac reinterpreted into two-dimensional patterns with perspective lines and shades to create optical illusions and three-dimensional visuals.
The new material, new neoprene, was created for the sportswear industry and harbours the ideal balance between weight and volume, allowing Poem to create voluminous skirts that look weightless, as if they are floating on air. The sensually airy new-neoprene also snuggles and cradles the body, thus presents a woman’s sensual physique in stylish fashion.
An array of mind-boggling designs comes in top quality materials like velvet, organza and geometric lace work, adding modern glamour to the collection and satisfying the modern lifestyle of Poem’s women, while the power mesh lining boosts confidence. With sharp, smart and elegant silhouettes, the collection is designed for both day and nightwear, from an ordinary day at the office to a special party.
 The colour palette for Sonnet of Starlight highlights the classic pairings of burgundy red and nude, pink and grey as well as black. The patterns play with dark shadows and shades of bright, glowing stars, and the unique juxtaposition of a woman’s delicate and strong sides.
Prominent in every collection, the corset, waist training and pencil skirt that form such a sensual hourglass bodice and are immediately recognisable as Poem’s signature style, become easier to wear. Flared skirts are there too as is a tailored Le Smoking suit that exudes simple elegance as well as femininity.
