'Crisis panel' like a long-term cure for rotten Thailand

Re: Abhisit slams proposal to include crisis panel in charter, Letters, Sept 18.

After 83 years, 19 coups and 18 constitutions, yes, we need a political system with the “Big Brother” watching over an elected government.

Thailand was like a dying man with a rare form of cancer. The military coup was like a team of doctors who took matters into their own hands, forced to perform a surgery on him. Now they are putting the man on a restricted diet in a tightly controlled environment. The man’s freedom, hedonistic lifestyle and right to pursuit happiness are taken away, but only for a certain period. Once he is completely healed he will be able to live normally again. But things won’t to be exactly the same.
Healed cancer patients are required to take medication for the rest of their life to prevent cancerous cells from returning. For Thailand the cancer is “corrupt government” and the lifetime medication is “crisis panel.”
