An apology to well-meaning expats

Re: "Expats give their life savings, get little in return" and "Expat generosity is filling gaps in Thailand", Letters, December 9 and 10.

I notice that my last letter, which targeted expats in Thailand who have been unfriendly towards their adopted home and its people by levelling unfair criticism against us, has also sparked discontent among well-meaning foreigners living in this country.
I want to apologise sincerely to those good-natured expats.
However, just as there are both good and bad Thais in every corner of the world, there are good and bad expats in Thailand.
With that in mind, I will continue to defend my country against unfair criticism without hesitation, from whichever quarter it comes.
