Prayut must dispel suspicions of corruption in high places

Re: “Fearing for his life, Paween seeks asylum”, National, December 11.

Premier Prayut Chan-o-cha’s bid to convince the world that his government is doing all it can to combat human-trafficking has met with a major setback. The police officer who led the investigation into the trafficking of Rohingya Muslim migrants is now seeking asylum in Australia, claiming he fears for his life because people with influence in Thailand want him dead.
Over the course of his year and a half in power, Prayut has repeatedly assured the Thai people and the world that his government would not allow powerful nefarious interests to take control of the country.
Now it looks like he’s being challenged to “walk the talk” and dispel the suspicions that people close to him are exploiting their position for selfish interests.
