I think we should consider taking the word “sovereignty” out of the dictionary. India is refusing visas for members of a US commission examining religious freedom around the world. Maybe we should thank India.
Every “commission” and programme like this – and there are many – propagates the American and First World understanding of issues. Germany and Japan attempted world domination 75 years ago with force. These days the effort is stealthier, being made through the globalisation of cultures and concerns into a single mould that pleases the most powerful countries.
Maybe countries like India can fight back in kind by, for example, sending commissions to America to investigate the easy availability of guns there. I assure you they would not be welcomed – just as having American commissions look over the shoulder of countries around the world is not welcome either. Enough!
