Barstool philosophers taking swings at Obama

I have been fascinated lately by the repartee among writers to this column, which at times reminds me of barstool philosophising.

Lately I’ve been embarrassed by the strong talk about US President Obama. I have yet to understand the problems people see in “ObamaCare”. It has been invaluable for my daughter, a single mother. Considering that ours is the only First World country without universal healthcare, I would expect American expats to be more understanding. The same people who had successfully fought off universal healthcare in the US since World War Two also watered down the ObamaCare we should have had. Now they are leading the complaints.
Before Obama entered the White House, many of those same people marched off to war foolishly. President Obama was re-elected on promises to turn us back from the very actions that others demand from him now. Barstool philosophers complain about anything and everything the US president does because he was not their choice. He deserves a defence.
If Donald Trump is elected president, the nature of farang philosophising will surely change.
Maybe those of us who choose to live outside the US should mind our own business regarding both Thai and US politics.
