I could not suppress a smile after reading Khun Songdej Praditsmanont’s letter. He reacts in the same way as the UK has done over the past 40 years, saying the EU has to listen to the wishes of the UK, as opposed to both parties having to listen to each other.
Khun Songdej should realise that during a split like this there are two parties involved and both parties have a say in how the separation process should take place.
But I can understand that the UK needs time. It is clear that the Leave movement has no plans for implementing the Brexit.
A drawn-out process will only make things worse for commerce.
Is it the right choice for the UK to split from the EU? I doubt it.
The country is split into two camps, Remain and Leave, and I read reports that some corporations are now planning to flee Britain. The UK might end up without Northern Ireland and Scotland as well. I think the UK overplayed its hand, which does not mean the situation should be exploited. But neither can there be “back to business as usual”.
Did you see the “Silly walk off the cliff in Dover” caricature in the New Yorker magazine? It pretty much sums it up the Brexit issue.
