Gems on the rocks

Jewellery designer Anek Tantasirin plays with various types of quartz for his amazing collections

A SKILLED DESIGNER who combines classic jewellery with abstract forms, Anek Tantasirin is making a name for himself in Paris and Dubai and plenty of other countries in between.
Anek, an Assumption University visual communication arts graduate, set up his brand Arquetype in 2013 and entered the retail market a year later with a range of classic silver rings adorned with rare semi-precious stones in one-of-a-kind settings. His designs proved popular with customers at Siam Center’s multi-brand Wonder Room boutique and he sealed his reputation a few months later by winning prizes at Japan’s Good Design Awards and Thailand’s Demark Awards for his chunky Naica ring, which plays with a truncated form of quartz crystal.
“I wanted to convert my designs into 3D form to make them more tangible,” he explains. “I started with gemstones because they have a classic shape and unique texture. I spent several months learning about gemstones from the Internet then searched for professional and reliable suppliers to guarantee quality. My stones are rare and that makes them popular with art lovers.
“The brand’s name plays with three words – art, acute and prototype. My jewellery is designed with a masculine feeling but looks smart on both men and women.”
Anek went on to showcase his creations at the Designer Room zone of the Bangkok International Fashion and Leather Fairs and also joined design road shows and fairs in Germany and Paris. Today, he has four counters in Paris and Dubai and exports his pieces to Japan, Singapore, Russia and Hong Kong.
Last year, Anek opened a pop-up counter at Siam Paragon and expanded the line to include 92.5-per-cent silver bracelets, necklaces, earrings, cufflinks and lapel pins coated in yellow gold, pink gold and black rhodium.
His new Wireframe collection draws inspiration from the natural form of quartz while the Magnum Bullet series revives hexagonal crystal prisms in a bullet-like structure.
Recently launched at the fairs in Germany and Paris, the Bermudez collection is as dark and mysterious as the famed Bermuda Triangle while the Quartz Knot line comes in a smart hexagonal cuts.
Arquetype’s classic designs bring to the fore such semi-precious stones as the clear blue and translucent Canadian labradorite, the African rainbow moonstone with its milky glow, ocean jaspers from Madagascar marked by undersea volcano eruption and crazy lace agates from Mexico in orange and red.
Arquetype’s products are available at Gin & Milk of Siam Center, Greyhound Original and Crystal Veranda.
