Kachorn tendered his resignation on Tuesday, less than four months after agreeing to take a back-seat role and support coach Kiatisak Senamuang for the team’s campaign to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The Bangkok United president’s latest spell was not as successful as his previous stint, which saw him help the Kingdom reclaim the title in the 44th King’s Cup in June. Kachorn said Thailand’s failure to claim any points from their opening four games that left them rooted to the bottom of the Group B standings did not “meet the expectations” and had forced him to step down.
While recognising his strong commitment during his time with the national team, who have plummeted to 146th spot in the world rankings, the Thai FA said they had to yield to his decision to make way for a suitable person to succeed him. Thailand next face second-placed Australia in the home World Cup qualifier at Rajamangala National Stadium on November 15 before beginning their title defence at the Asean Championship four days later.
