No Thai govt has taken King’s ideas seriously

Samantha Power, United States permanent representative to the United Nations, offered an apt tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol last Friday at the UN special session held in his honour, hailing his unrelenting efforts in forging bonds and generosity among Thai families.

There is no doubt about the close and affectionate ties that existed between the Thai people and their King. Most Thais refer to His Majesty simply as “Phor Luang”, or Great Father.
However, no government over the past 70 years has done enough to realise the King’s valuable concepts and experimental works.
Among these are the household water- and rice-storage projects, the sufficiency-economy concept, and the means by which farmers could stand on their own feet – all of which should have been put into practice long ago. City dwellers could also benefit from some of these concepts and projects.
The Prayut Chan-o-cha government should now seize the opportunity to turn these beneficial concepts into reality.
