Trump must do just two things to get re-elected

Vint Chavala and John Shepherd do a great hatchet job on the Donald Trump phenomenon. Yet the reality is that the US president has already shown that he can be as mendacious, sexist and racist as he likes without suffering any political penalty.
In fact, Trump has to achieve only two things to have a high chance of re-election in 2020. He has to create millions of jobs and keep America safe from external attack. Any chance of him being impeached or resigning depends on his failing in these priorities. Nothing else matters.
Of course, if terrorists succeed in exploding a huge bomb on the New York subway or if Trump’s protectionism leads to mass unemployment, the current American ruling elite will dump him like a syphilitic toad.
