Pigs at the trough won’t clean up Bangkok

The BMA is intent on cleaning up the streets of Bangkok. In the interest of cleanliness, safety and order it is reclaiming the pavements and banning street food vendors.

Wanlop Suwandee, chief adviser to Bangkok’s governor, wants to “return the pavements to the people – no exceptions”. All well and good but I have another suggestion.
The people are hungry for integrity. So, instead, start by cleaning up the offices of City Hall. Sweep out the corridors of power and serve up a wholesome smorgasbord of honesty and sincerity. Target corruption in the interest of justice, order, safety and the entire future of the metropolis. Clear the pavements of illegal construction and encroachment. Ban crooked officials, fraudulent building licences and dirty brown envelopes. Reclaim the tainted filing cabinets and give administrative scumbags a diet of “rice porridge”.
Return the BMA to the people and make Bangkok a city to be proud of, a city to feast on.
