S lurches into the wilderness with a maniac at the wheel

Re: “Anti-Trump fanatics have lost touch with reality”, Have Your Say, June 2.

The apologist “HHB”, or whoever he really is, has clearly taken complete leave of his senses.
In an attempt to support the Dali-esque unsupportable, “HHB” amateurishly seeks to divert attention to the contextually irrelevant (the Clintons) in order to irrationally excuse the dangerously incompetent. He mentions the Clintons’ plan “to sell off 20 per cent of American uranium to their “friend” Russia” without, presumably, the benefit of a proposed Trump administration “back-channel” to the Kremlin. Moreover, this Clinton conspiracy tripe would naturally help to explain the dictator Putin’s well-documented visceral hatred of Hillary. Conversely, Putin thinks that Trump is “straightforward”, “sincere” with a “fresh view”.
Consider this: “Have these nay-sayers ever bothered to checked the achievements of Trump in his first 100 days in office?” he bleats. Yes, we have; the piecemeal “good” Trump has concocted amounts to very little; the reality amounts to a catastrophic series of blunders and zero-sum cojones, that run the gamut of solecisms the sociopath Trump has sicked-up on all of us.
Furthermore, “HHB” foists the faux “it’s all the media’s fault, stupid” on a largely disbelieving world, and what amounts to a calculated insult to our collective intelligence. This, when the world is crying out for what the late presidential adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski referred to as (competent) US leadership, calling it the sine qua non of a stable world order. This is, evidentially, glaringly conspicuous by its absence. As French leader Emmanuel Macron correctly stated following the US Paris Climate Accord reversal, America “has turned its back on the world” – thanks to the idiocracy infesting the White House.
To add further insult to injury, Trump has hijacked the now cheapened slogan “Make America great again” taken from, for example Roosevelt. He has also purloined “draining the swamp”, which was previously used by former CIA senior officer Ray McGovern, with regard to dealing with the root causes of terrorism.
There’s an old English phrase that perfectly describes “HHB”’s risible apologia, and I change it to a polite version: he’s extracting the urine.
