I eat what’s available and affordable in my community, what my parents brought me up on, what I see and smell as I move around the markets, what the food industry has managed to entice me to eat with its billion-dollar advertising and, most of all, what I fancy.
Like most people I care little about the science involved in my body’s processing of that food. Just like most of us don’t know what goes on in a mobile phone and have no idea how an automatic gearbox works in a car, I have only the faintest idea of what goes on after food has entered my mouth. Many people share this mentality. To understand why, you only have to look at the horrific pictures on cigarette packets and realise that those horrors do not stop smokers from buying the product. So please, Messrs Bahrt and Turk, leave me to eat what I will and enjoy the simple pleasures of food. I suggest you correspond with each other by Internet if you must carry on like unfulfilled scientists.
