US president’s sanity being questioned at high levels

Re: “Conspiracy theorist torpedoed by facts of WWII history”, Have Your Say, yesterday.

I agree with Robin Grant’s thoughts on the minimalist treatment given to Thailand’s travails in this column. I am as guilty as others in this, and I do take Mr Grant’s thoughts on board. Perhaps would-be contributors are discouraged by the impression that a de facto military dictatorship has been given tacit approval by the international community and is thus not worth tilting a lance at.
Conversely, the deserved global opprobrium directed at Trump and his fellow travellers is of some considerable moment, and has implications for all of us when we realise that he has control of the US nuclear codes. If that doesn’t keep the Joint Chiefs awake at night, I would wonder what does.
For those here who deign to support this man and don’t bother with small details like facts, I would suggest they listen to James Clapper, retired US Air force Lieutenant General and the former director of the Defence Intelligence Agency and National Intelligence. He, among many other distinguished commentators, is on the record as questioning Trump’s sanity, and seeming inability to competently discharge his duties.
