A domesticated elephant is a tortured elephant

Re: “An update from he elephant polo: bullhooks beatings and chains”, Have Your Say, March 14.

Jason Baker of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), in his letter of March 14, notes how the elephants who performed at last week’s annual polo tournament in Bangkok were chained all day and beaten. And PETA has the footage to prove it.
The fact that people still say they are not aware that torture is the method of training elephants to be performers means these people are either ignorant, in denial or incredibly cruel.
And why aren’t any local animal rights activists speaking out about this? They should be leading the charge.
