A fishy mix of absolutist and democrat

A fishy mix of absolutist and democrat

Re: “Don’t allow distortion, totalitarianism to cloud death penalty debate”, Have Your Say, yesterday.

The sour taste of blind, unthinking extremism must be festering away in Nigel Pike’s mind, tainted as it is with the bitter crop of intolerance.
Such is his aversion to democracy he cheekily assumes that I, too, am tempted by the dark fruit hanging from his sickly tree of rank totalitarian bigotry. As Del Trotter of “Only Fools and Horses” fame would have it, “No way, Pedro.” Give me reason, democracy and fairness any day, not Pike’s typically ham-fisted attempt to place me and Eric Bahrt in the same repellent company as him and other far-right fanatics.
It comes as no surprise that, in the manner of zealots everywhere, Pike attacks those of us who would rather use intelligence to reject the excesses of savagery he staunchly upholds. We already know he doesn’t celebrate the existence of the “Other”; no further proof needed.
Even more incredibly, the openly anti-democratic Pike lectures the readers of this publication with the words “let the people decide”. The hypocrisy is staggering.
