Never have we seen so many people with their arms in slings or more people – like me – in wheelchairs.
It seems the priority is for drivers, but you forget that your once-quiet fishing village has expanded beyond imagination due to tourism. Isn’t it about time you began caring for the welfare of those who use pavements – tourists and locals alike?
For instance, a hole appeared in the middle of the pavement near the new wing of the Amari Hotel last week. The next day, it was covered with a broom almost bare of bristles and two thin pieces of wood – presumably to act as a warning. The adjoining kerbstone has collapsed and the corner as you get to the beach road, which was repaired last year, has fallen apart again.
Try walking opposite the Woodlands Hotel on Na Klua Road – I could just go on.
Tourists have been behind the expansion of Pattaya. Do not alienate them by neglecting the basics. Near the New Plaza, men were recently seen going down the drains to collect awful grey sludge in buckets. Once the job was done, the drain covers were returned but not cemented in, leaving gaps for feet or wheels to jam into.
Though it was nice seeing Army cadets clean up the beach last week, maybe they would be more effective if they walked around and noted where work is required. Perhaps they could also clean up the less visible alleyways and roads.
