Stray-dog problem is rooted in human behaviour

Stray-dog problem is rooted in human behaviour

Re: “Canines bared over dog extermination plea”, Letters, March 2-3.

In what was an otherwise excellent letter, Egon is wrong when he says dog bites in Thailand are a rare occurrence. Twice in Thailand I have been bit by stray dogs.
But if humans would stop over-breeding dogs and then turning them loose in the streets we wouldn’t have that problem. (Get your dogs from the shelters, not the pet stores!)
As for pit bulls, Egon is right that they become vicious if they’re trained to be dog fighters. But what many people don’t know is that pit bulls who are well treated are very gentle and loving dogs.
It is not dogs that are evil and disgusting, it’s the humans who abuse them.
