Below you’ll find your June 2021 guide to the best series/movies currently streaming on Netflix. The mix covers a myriad of genres, lengths, countries of origins, from old favorites to buzzy newcomers and much more, but the one thing they have in common is that they are all marvelous.

Lists of shows you can binge-watch while working from home

Move to Heaven

“Move to Heaven”, the latest Korean original series from Netflix. Given the title of the show and its premise, centred around trauma cleaners, sentimentality is perhaps to be expected. The show marks a lot of dramatic boxes, with mental disability, terminal illness and single parenthood all present within the central family and that’s before we consider their occupation, which gives the show an ever-present pall of death and mourning.

New Amsterdam

“New Amsterdam”, one of the biggest hospital dramas on Netflix right now. Inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution's newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. Already renewed through to season five, the medical drama features Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin who is brought in to turn a hospital around.

Ghost Lab

“Ghost Lab”, a thriller from GDH, the first Thai film to premiere on Netflix. The storyline focuses on supernatural experiments that cross the boundaries between life and death. It stars “Tor” Thanapob Leeratanakachorn, “Ice” Paris Intarakomalyasut and “Nychaa” Nuttanicha Dungwattanawanich.

“The storyline is quite unconventional, because it attempts a deeper exploration of our belief in the supernatural, and whether this can be proven by science. It’s an honour to be partnering with a global platform that allows for creative expression and I hope this movie will encourage the audience to contemplate their ways of life and find the answers to their questions,” said Paween Purijitpanya, the director.

Who Killed Sarah

“Who Killed Sara?,” the popular Mexican mystery thriller series that returned for a second season May 19 on Netflix, a puzzle, as its title suggests. Alex (Manolo Cardona), released from prison 18 years after being found responsible for the death of his sister, Sara (Ximena Lamadrid), in a suspicious parasailing mishap, is obsessed with proving that she was murdered and identifying the culprit. Having somehow gained an impressive mastery of surveillance technology, bomb making and other dark arts while in jail, he sets out to investigate and harass both psychologically and physically the members of a wealthy family, the Lazcanos, who used to be his and Sara’s intimate friends.

The style is telenovela-breathless, with the emotional temperature slightly dialed down, no wonder it became the biggest foreign language show in the US after it premiered.

The Haunting of Hill House

“The Haunting of Hill House”, an effective ghost story whose steadily mounting anticipation is just as satisfying as its chilling payoff. Its structure is a thing of beauty, cutting back and forth between two eras of the Crain family. The present-day material introduces us to an array of troubled souls, all of whom are somewhat involved in trying to psychologically atone for the events that took place at Hill House decades ago. Not unlike “LOST,” each episode centers on a Crain family member, filling in both their present predicaments and highlighting their perspective on the days the family spent in one of the most famous haunted houses in the world.

Designated Survivor

“Designated Survivor”, is something that actually happens, a political drama about a government official who becomes president after a deadly attack. Kiefer Sutherland (Tom Kirkman), a lower-level cabinet member, suddenly appointed President of the United States after a catastrophic attack on the US Capitol during the State of the Union, will struggle to keep the country and his own family from falling apart, while navigating the highly-volatile political arena and while leading the search to find who is responsible for the attack.

Peaky Blinders

“Peaky Blinders”, a British period crime drama television series, moves at its own speed, taking its time to create a portrait of post-war Britain that's as bloody and brutal as it is impressively immersive. Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and his brothers return to Birmingham after serving in the British Army during WWI. Shelby and the Peaky Blinders, the gang he is leader of, control the city of Birmingham. But as Shelby's ambitions extend beyond Birmingham, he plans to build on the business empire he's created, and stop anyone who gets in his way.

Shadow Bone

“Shadow Bone”, Netflix's latest fantasy series, based on a successful book trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, filled with mystery, dark deeds and flesh-shredding monsters but falls short of fantasy’s finest hour. It's stuffed with characters, locations, plot twists and familiar fantasy elements including, characters who possess the ability to control various elements; wind, water, fire, sure, machines, and bodies, a Big Dark Thing that is Prophesied to be Be Defeated by A Chosen One; a Sun-Summoner, who controls light, the fact that the aforementioned Chosen One is not noble-born, but a Reluctant Commoner Who Must Be Trained by Stern Teachers Until She Accepts And Masters Her Gift.
