TPI Polene Power and TPI Polene again make it to Thaipat’s ESG100 Companies

FRIDAY, JUNE 30, 2023

TPI Polene Power (TPIPP) Plc, a leading power producer and trader, and TPI Polene (TPIPL) Plc, a manufacturer and distributor of ready-mixed concrete and specialty polymer, have been named among the ESG100 Companies of 2023 by Thaipat Institute.

The institute evaluated 888 listed companies based on their operations in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects.

TPI Polene Power has made it to the ESG100 directory in the resource category for four successive years since 2018, while TPI Polene has been included in the property and construction category for two consecutive years in 2022-2023.

Prachai Leophairatana, chairman of TPI Polene Power, said it was an honour to be selected by Thaipat Institute in the ESG100 directory for the fourth time.

TPI Polene Power currently produces electricity from three kinds of fuels: coal, waste heat and refuse-derived fuel (RDF), and is in the process of transforming to using 100% RDF. It also operates the largest waste disposal facilities in Thailand and the Asean region, which are considered the world’s largest facilities to be located in the same area.

“TPI Polene Power is aiming to transform all our coal-powered plants, totalling 220 megawatts capacity, into 100% RDF plants by the year 2025,” he said.

“Last year, the company turned 2.73 million tonnes of refuse from communities into power plant fuel instead of burying them, effectively reducing carbon dioxide emissions from landfills by 6.34 million tonnes.”

Prachai added that besides turning refuse into fuel, TPI Polene Power was also committed to using clean energy, such as solar and wind, to produce electricity to reduce environmental impact.

Meanwhile, Khanchai Wijakkana, chairman of TPI Polene, said: “The company prioritises sustainability policies based on the principles of BCG [Bio, Circular, Green] economy and ESG, and has also carried out the “net zero” campaign. We promoted the use of hydraulic cement instead of the Portland counterpart, since the former requires fewer clinkers in the manufacturing process and therefore releases lower CO2. Buildings that use hydraulic cement are certified under the LEED and TREES standards in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.”

“Furthermore, since June 1 this year, the TPI group has introduced green products including green clinker, green cement, green fibre cement and green concrete roof tile. These products have been manufactured from renewable materials, using renewable energy in the manufacturing process.”

Launched in 2015, Thaipat Institute’s ESG100 directory names 100 listed companies based on operations in the Environmental, Social and Governance aspects as well as the companies’ turnover in the respective year.

The ranking also serves as a database on sustainability operations of listed companies for investors who wish to invest in companies that demonstrate outstanding social and environmental responsibilities, as well as those looking to invest in high quality securities that guarantee no lesser turnover than general investments.

The ESG100 certificate presentation ceremony was held at TPI Tower in Bangkok on Monday and Tuesday (June 26-27), presided over by Thaipat Institute president Pipat Yodprudtikan. The certificates were received by Prachai Leophairatana, Khanchai Wijakkana, and executives of TPI Polene Power and TPI Polene.
