Landslide damages Tak school

Landslide damages Tak school

Heavy rains triggered a landslide on Wednesday, causing damage worth nearly Bt300,000 to Ban Mae Ramoeng School in Tak’s Tha Song Yang district, a source at the school said on Thursday.

The incident prompted teachers and students living at the school compound to evacuate to a safer spot for fear of more landslides should there be further prolonged downpours.
Rocks and soil fell onto a single-storey dormitory building occupied by 41 schoolgirls but didn’t result in any injury.
An assessment found damage to the walls and toilets as well students’ closets and belongings. Restoration work is estimated to cost Bt290,000, the source said.
The hillside school had 82 teachers and 973 students and provides accommodation lodgings to 130 schoolboys and 267 girls as well as some members of the teaching staff.
