Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chalermchai Srioon said on Friday that farmers registered with the Rubber Authority of Thailand will on October 1 begin receiving a guaranteed price of Bt60 per kilogram for raw rubber, limited to plantations up to 25 rai in size.
He said a Bt30-billion budget had been earmarked via the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, which would be repaid once the national budget for fiscal 2021 is approved.
This price guarantee will be applied from October through next April and cover 13.3 million rai and 1.12 million growers.
Compensation will be paid every two months at Bt60 per kilogram of raw sheet rubber, Bt57 for latex and Bt50 for coagulated “cup lump”.
Chalermchai said he would appoint four different panels to monitor the scheme and guard against errors or corruption – one to oversee the plan, another to gauge the median prices and the others watching provincial and district implementation.
The minister said all the details were in place and he would call a meeting of businesses, middlemen and farmer representatives to exchange opinions before taking the plan to the Cabinet.
