BMTA to use electronic cards for weekly, monthly tickets

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority will change its paper weekly and monthly tickets to refillable electronic plastic cards, the BMTA director said on Tuesday,

BMTA director Surachai Iamwachirakul said the paper weekly and monthly tickets would be changed to plastic cards similar to the electronic tickets used on the electric train systems to allow the BMTA to save on printing costs.
The new electronic advance payment tickets will allow bus passengers to refill their tickets via electronic banking apps, PromptPay transfer and other e-wallet apps as well as airtime refilling machines.
Surachai said the BMTA is now consulting with Krung Thai Bank on the system to be used, adding that development should be completed within two months.
