Products containing microbeads banned
The Ministry of Public Health has prohibited the production, import and sale of cosmetics with plastic microbeads with effect from January 1 according to an announcement published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette website on December 23.
Cosmetics with plastic microbeads currently being sold on the market must be withdrawn and dealt with within 180 days of the measure taking effect.
Plastic microbeads are plastic particles smaller than 5 millimetres, dissolvable and non-degradable. They are usually used for polishing.
