Thais from Iran, India fly back today

Almost 200 Thai nationals will return from Iran and India on Saturday (April 25), while the government has decided to facilitate border transportation with several safety measures to sustain trade and also prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Twenty-one Thai nationals returned from Iran on Saturday morning, and 171 nationals, monks and pilgrims, will return from India at 3.10pm, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Saturday (April 25).
Also, 212 Thai nationals, including students and workers, will return from Australia on Sunday (April 25). “All returnees will be under scrutiny in state quarantine,” he added.
The spokesperson also said the government has issued measures to facilitate border transportation amid the virus situation and enforced the emergency decree.
“We cannot quarantine all cross-border drivers, since they are important and needed,” he said.
The government measures related to areas of transportation and management. The border checkpoints must determine areas for transportation, and provide checking and sanitising points in order to prevent the risk of Covid-19 spreading. The relevant agencies should provide places for quarantine.
Furthermore, the transportation must be as quick as possible, and the drivers will not be allowed to come out of the vehicles. Also, they must return to Thailand within seven hours, after travelling across the border to transport goods to neighbouring countries.
“Those who take more than seven hours will be quarantined for 14 days,” the spokesperson said.
