Buddhists nationwide commemorate Visakha Bucha Day online
Wat Bowonniwet Vihara in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district on Wednesday (May 6) broadcast its religious rituals via its Facebook page to let pious Buddhists nationwide participate in Visakha Bucha Day (commemoration day of the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha).
The ceremony began at 7pm with monks circling the temple with lighted candles, followed by a sermon from the abbot and prayers until the morning of the following day. A few people joined in at the temple where social distancing practices were maintained.
The Sangha Supreme Council on May 5 ordered all temples under its jurisdiction, both in Thailand and overseas, to suspend all religious rituals for Visakha Bucha Day to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
