Over 100,000 AstraZeneca doses landed on Wednesday

The first lot of 117,600 doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford University vaccine landed in Thailand on Wednesday, confirmed Dr Nakorn Premsri, director of the National Vaccine Institute.

The doses have arrived earlier than originally scheduled and will help in the Public Health Ministry’s aim to accelerate Thailand’s recovery from the crisis.

“The delivery of the vaccines was scheduled to kick off in June when production of doses at the Siam BioScience lab was set to gradually begin. However, with the new wave of infections, frontline health personnel must get inoculated immediate. in the frontline must immediately inoculated.

“With cooperation from AstraZeneca, Thailand has been given access to doses earlier. This lot has come from AstraZeneca’s global production and is in line with our mission to give people equal access to Covid-19 vaccination,” Dr Nakhon said.

The AstraZeneca doses will first undergo a quality test before they are delivered to target groups.

Thailand has signed a deal for 61 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine including technology transfer, which will see Siam BioScience producing doses locally.
