Smashed bridge leaves pedestrians stranded on Rama II Road

Smashed bridge leaves pedestrians stranded on Rama II Road

An SUV smashed into the steps of a bridge in Bangkok’s Bang Khunthien district on Tuesday, leaving pedestrians stranded on both sides of the eight-lane Rama II Road.

The impact demolished the base of the steps in the Samae Dam area, making them unsafe to use.

The bridge is the only way for local pedestrians to cross Rama II Road. The next bridge is about three kilometres away.

A local vendor said commuters used the bridge during the morning and evening, with students and factory workers mostly.

Thonburi Highway officials who inspected the bridge on Wednesday said repair work would begin on Thursday.
