Heat and haze with isolated thundershowers forecast for upper Thailand

Isolated thundershowers have been forecast for the lower North, the Northeast, the Central and the East.

The easterly winds blow over the South and the Gulf of Thailand with isolated thundershowers, the Thai Meteorological Department said on Sunday.

A thermal low pressure covers upper Thailand while the southerly and the southeasterly winds bring humidity from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand to the lower North, the Northeast, the Central and the East. A hot day with haze is forecast for upper Thailand, the department added.

Moreover, the moderate high pressure from China extends to upper Vietnam, and is expected to extend to the upper Northeast and the South China Sea by Sunday, while upper Thailand is hot with southerly winds and the southeasterly winds blowing over the lower Northeast, the Central and the East.

Outbreaks of thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in these areas.

The weather forecast for 24 hours:

Bangkok metropolis and its vicinity: Hot day with haze; minimum temperature 25-26°C, maximum 34-37°C; southerly winds 10-20 km/hr.

North: Hot day with haze and very hot in some areas; isolated light rains; minimum temperature 15-25°C, maximum 35-40°C; southwesterly winds 10-20 km/hr.

Northeast: Hot day with haze; isolated thundershowers with gusty winds; minimum temperature 21-25°C, maximum 34-38°C; southeasterly winds 10-20 km/hr.

Central: Hot day with haze; isolated thundershowers with gusty winds; minimum temperature 23-26°C, maximum 37-39°C; southerly winds 10-20 km/hr.

East: Hot day with haze; isolated thundershowers with gusty winds; minimum temperature 24-27°C; maximum 32-37°C; southeasterly winds 15-30 km/hr; waves about a metre high and 1-2 metres in thundershower areas.

South (east coast): Isolated thundershowers; minimum temperature 23-25°C, maximum 32-35°C; easterly winds 15-35 km/hr; waves 1-2 metres high.

South (west coast): Isolated thundershowers; minimum temperature 22-25°C; maximum 34-36°C; easterly winds 15-30 km/hr; waves about a metre high and above a metre offshore.
