Baby serow under care of sanctuary officials after its mum was hounded by foxes

A baby serow was rescued by Tham Chao Ram Wildlife Sanctuary officials after it was separated from its mother in a fox attack.

Chid Rodthung, a wildlife sanctuary official, said the officials found the baby serow during a survey in Thung Saleng district in Sukhothai province on Friday.

"The baby serow ran into us after a pack of foxes chased a big serow," he said. "As its mother didn't come back for a day, we decided to take the baby serow to the wildlife sanctuary on Saturday evening."

Meanwhile the wildlife sanctuary chief, Kittipat Saengkaew, said the baby serow is currently under the care of officials, adding that they have named it "Petch" (diamond).

"As Petch is still young, a veterinarian at the 14th Conservation Area Administration Office advised keeping the baby serow at the wildlife sanctuary before releasing it," he said.
