Heavy rain forecast for southern Thailand as upper regions face storms

Flash floods and fast-flowing run-off could affect the South, while gusts and lightning are forecast in upper Thailand. Waves will exceed two metres in thundershowers.

  • Southern Thailand is forecast to receive continuous heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours, with authorities warning of potential flash floods.
  • Upper Thailand, including the North and Northeast, will experience unsettled weather with thundershowers, gusty winds, and heavy rain.
  • The severe weather is caused by a high-pressure system from China, moisture from the South China Sea, and a strengthening monsoon trough over the South.
  • Mariners are advised to proceed with caution as waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are expected to exceed two meters in areas with thundershowers.

Continuous rain will persist in southern Thailand over the next 24 hours, with heavy to very heavy downpours in some areas, the Thai Meteorological Department forecast on Sunday (October 25, 2026).

Upper Thailand will experience unsettled weather, with thundershowers, gusty winds and heavy rain, as well as possible lightning in some areas.

The Northeast and North will be affected first, followed by the Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, and the East.

People in the South should beware of thundershowers, heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that could cause flash floods and fast-flowing run-off, particularly on foothill slopes near waterways and in low-lying areas.

People in upper Thailand should take precautions against thundershowers and gusty winds.

They should avoid staying in open spaces, under large trees or beneath unsecured billboards.

These conditions will result from a high-pressure system, or cold air mass, extending from China over upper Thailand and the South China Sea.

Easterly winds will carry moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand into upper Thailand and the upper South, while the monsoon trough over the South strengthens.

Waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will exceed two metres in areas with thundershowers.

Mariners should proceed with caution and avoid sailing through these areas.
