Security assistance, intelligence work and support for Japanese businesses abroad will feature in a request for about 1.2 trillion yen that Japan’s Foreign Ministry plans to submit for the government’s fiscal 2027 budget.
The package is intended to bring Japan closer to countries sharing its outlook as international security conditions worsen, informed sources said on Friday (August 21).
The ministry’s plans call for 1.01 billion yen to help Japanese companies expand overseas and support exports of Japanese products and technologies.
Another 1.04 billion yen will be requested to strengthen intelligence activities.
Funding sought for Official Security Assistance (OSA) amounts to 18.13 billion yen.
Security-related Official Development Assistance (ODA) is also included, covering maritime-chart development to support stable sea lanes, infrastructure in like-minded countries and stronger cybersecurity capabilities.
Many other measures in the submission will carry no stated funding amount.
The ministry will present the request under a new budget quota for a strong and prosperous Japan, prepared under an initiative by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
