Mitsubishi Electric targets global smart energy growth with PCI deal

Mitsubishi Electric will pay US$1.4 billion for PCI, which supplies energy-trading software to more than 120 corporate customers, mainly in the US electricity market.

  • Mitsubishi Electric is acquiring US software provider PCI Energy Solutions for $1.4 billion, its largest-ever purchase.
  • The company aims to double its energy solutions sales to 200 billion yen by fiscal 2030 as a result of the deal.
  • The acquisition will combine PCI's energy optimization software with Mitsubishi's power-control technology to expand its smart energy services globally.

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation is targeting energy solutions sales of 200 billion yen in fiscal 2030 through its planned purchase of US software provider PCI Energy Solutions.

That would be twice the 100 billion yen estimated for fiscal 2026, which ends next March.

PCI’s customer base exceeds 120 companies and is concentrated in the US electricity market.

Registered under the legal name Power Costs, Inc., the business supplies software that manages energy trading, from load and demand forecasts and generation schedules to energy portfolio optimisation.

The US$1.4 billion transaction was announced on Thursday (August 20, 2026) and ranks as the biggest acquisition in Mitsubishi Electric’s history.

Completion is expected during 2026, subject to regulatory approval.

The wider objective is to take Mitsubishi Electric’s “smart energy” services into markets worldwide.

Under the plan, PCI’s optimisation capabilities would be paired with the Japanese company’s power-control technology and component expertise to improve energy use overall.
